THE HERBAL BUS
IPC15:
This was another really full on event. It was born out of The Herbalists Gathering at Glastonbury. I was asked to organise the Wellbeing Area. We had two masseurs join us and Nick, Nessa, Mel, and kids Joe and Ced in our team plus some helpers. In reality it was totally overwhelming. So we really had to work to ask for helpers and they poured tea, sorted the foot baths and were fab. It brewed an idea that Nick and I worked well together, that we wanted to work more together and I even got money to pay for some of the expenses. Many things take time, energy and money to do, this took all three but was totally worth it in experience and by the people I met and the feedback we got that we had made their convergence OK.
WWW: What Went Well?
Amazing festival vibe
hot water on tap
great sorting people out with headache meds, massages, cold remedies.
Rum!!! medicinal of course.
Having 50 plus people in the area for a workshop
Got Nick into Permaculture and that helped him get a job.
EVI: Even Better If!
Better photos
felt a little removed from the main area being in the quiet camping - perhaps a good thing.
I felt exhausted and perhaps £400 out of pocket by the end which didn't really feel like a sustainable thing
After The Herbal Bus came out to play at the International Permaculture Gathering providing first aid, foot baths, a chill space, workshop open space, yoga and a wellbeing area, many developments have taken place.
THE HERBAL BUS is large enough to be a design in it's own right and some of the things to think about are:
the Herb Bus has massive potential, I hope you experience it yourself soon.

October 2017 Update:
Nick and I have been busy and focused on making the Herb Bus simple to bring out to functions. It is not a community venture which clarifies the direction of the project. It is simpler to have clear ownership. My involvement has been primarily just for shambala festival and private functions. Pukka partnership did not come to fruition and I wish to hire the Herb Bus for functions and or have a scaled down version with my own much smaller van as part of my social enterprise ideas to engage with communities at fetes, festivals and functions. The private botanical cocktail bar idea is still very much part of my ideas. Making herbal medicines taste amazing and be fun and be on tap for community celebrations.
THE HERBAL BUS is large enough to be a design in it's own right and some of the things to think about are:
- Who is involved?
- Glastonbury with the Medical Herbalists
- Botanical Cocktail bar
- Partnership - currently talking to Pukka Herbs.
- Being a business - i.e. not losing money but providing right livihood.
the Herb Bus has massive potential, I hope you experience it yourself soon.
